About Fannin County, GA
"Trout Capital of Georgia"

Fannin County, GA -- Trout Capital of GeorgiaDesignated by
the Georgia State Legislature in 2010 as Trout Capital
of Georgia,
Fannin County lies in the Appalachian Mountains, 90 miles north of Atlanta, bordering on North Carolina and Tennessee.

Extending from within the county seat of Blue Ridge to the county border north, south, east and west, more than 100 miles of trout streams and rivers wind through Fannin County across 100,000 acres of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Blue Ridge is a quaint mountain gateway town with art galleries, downtown shopping, delectable restaurants, a scenic railroad, and get-away cabins nestled on mountain ridges, in peaceful valleys and on scenic waters.

About Gilmer County, GA  "Georgia's Apple Capital"

Gilmer County, GeorgiaGilmer County is Georgiaís Apple Capital and contains abundant National Forest lands, including Springer Mountain, the southernmost terminus of the Appalachian Trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Gilmer County is located along Highway 515/GA Highway 5, about 75 miles north of Atlanta. At more than 430 square miles big, the heavily wooded landscape stretches across the southernmost reach of north Georgiaís Blue Ridge Mountains. 

 Ellijay, the capital and largest town Gilmer County is an ďAppalachian Trail TownĒ and is located about 40 minutes east of the Trout Adventure Trail. The official headquarters for the Trout Adventure Trail in Ellijay is
North Georgia Mountain Outfitters.

Patch awards commemorate fun, education and conservation

Spend a few hours, a day, a weekend, maybe even a week on the Trout Adventure Trail and earn a commemorative patch signifying your commitment and achievement.

 

Trout Adventure Trail patchWho can earn a basic official patch?

  • Any person who hikes any part of any one of the routes designated along the
    Trout Adventure Trail is eligible for the exclusive official patch provided by Trout Unlimited (one patch per person). An adult (parent, youth leader, teacher) must confirm completion of the segment of the trail hiked.
    SEE NOTE BELOW.

  • Patches can be obtained at any of the trial headquarters (listed below). Patches will be provided to the adult responsible for providing the names and ages of children and the names of adults who hiked on the trail.

  • NOTE: Children under the age of 18 are eligible for successive patches if they take separate hikes on the Trout Adventure Trail more than five (5) days apart. A child
    may earn up to two standard patches per year for qualifying hikes.
    Example: Hiker A. Jones, who is 13 years old, hikes the GREEN route with her Girl
    Scout troop on Oc tober 13, 2012 and returns on October 20, 2012 with her parents
    and hikes the BLUE route to Long Creek Falls. Jones is eligible for a patch for each
    hike and will next be eligible to earn more patches in 2013.

12-MILER patch -- Trout Adventure TrailSpecial 12 MILER patch available for 2015-16

The 12 MILER patch is awarded to those hikers who complete all segments of the Trout Adventure Trail (GOLD route or equivalent). The segments may be completed in any order and segments may be completed on successive trips, provided all segments are completed by December 31, 2016. Segments may be completed on separate trips. For example, it does not matter if the GOLD route is completed as described on the trail description or in a different sequence, going in different directions or at different times.

 

The hiker must provide verification from an adult leader or parent that all segments were completed and the date or dates each segment or the entire hike was/were completed. Segments can be completed on separate trips. For example, it does not matter if the

Once all segments are completed, report completion at one of the Headquarters to receive your 12 Miler Patch. Youth hikers must provide verification from an adult leader or parent that all segments were completed.

 

 

How do you apply for a patch?

  • Unit leaders may pick up patches for an organization after completion of a hike by proving identification and providing a roster of hikers complete with the foregoing information at one of the locations below.
